Description
Would love to see the city partner with WSDOT to plant trees along the east side of SR599 to provide a noise and light buffer between the Duwamish neighborhood and the freeway, while also increasing canopy cover. There is a grass berm next to Interurban and 40th Ave S that would be perfect.

Thank you for your suggestion. I believe that the area you are referring to is within the chain-link fence that delineates the WSDOT right-of-way. If that is correct, it is likely part of the WSDOT Roadside and Site Development program. I don't know what process they use for determining if an area can be planted or not -- it is of course based on site lines, public safety and maintenance requirements among other things. if you would like more information about this I suggest contacting Juli Hartwig, Hartwij@wsdot.wa.gov, who is a Landscape Architect with WSDOT.
Good Luck!
